Stromnophony (2019) by Amy Beeston

Sound installation (2019).
1.2 m X 1.8 m X 0.2 m. Mounted cyanotype printed panels, illuminated buttons, digital audio player and headphones.

This sound installation captures and preserves the sounds of Stromness in summer 2019. The panels are arranged so that rows – rising – represent the sea, land and sky. Columns are arranged according to principles of soundscape ecology showing influences of human activity, wildlife and physical phenomena – the anthropophony, biophony and geophony of the town.
