The image derives its orientation from the soundtrack – the sea to the right, land to the left and sky centrally, above. The recording was made on International Dawn Chorus Day this year (5th May 2019), immediately after finishing a live broadcast segment for the Reveil 2019 project which followed the rising sun around the globe for 24 hours.
The continuous bass sound in this clip is MV Hamnavoe, berthed overnight in the harbour in Stromness. Above this we hear sparrows, starlings, gulls, and rooks around the rooftops, and eider ducks in the shallows of low tide.
