Description
Stone fringe soundwalk (postcard set)
8 double-sided postcards each with image (scanned cyanotype print), geographical location, listening prompt and link to 2-channel audio recording.
A series of sonic postcards that explore the Stromness shoreline using aural, visual and verbal prompts from the Stone Fringe Sound exhibition.
The linked audio recordings were first presented in Stromnophony, a wall-hung sound installation (with mounted cyanotype printed panels, illuminated buttons, digital audio player and headphones) that captures and preserves the sounds of Stromness in summer 2019. Stromnophony‘s panels are arranged so that rows – rising – represent the sea, land and sky. Columns are arranged according to principles of soundscape ecology showing influences of human activity, wildlife and physical phenomena – the anthropophony, biophony and geophony of the town.
